Aye, I described having a bug as having a “lurgy” the other day to someone from America, and it brought similar levels of confusion.
Not entirely healthy . It’s meant metaphorically, I haven’t contracted a rare rubberification disease!
Sorry to go quiet again, a bit rubbery at the moment, best not to send Elrond over here, I wouldn’t want him to catch anything . Great work keeping on top of it Holger .
Great shots (and a very nice looking work bench ).
Haha, has Elrond sold out to make a few extra marketing dollars, to get those new awnings at Imladris?!* . Great shot .
* Just joking of course, I expect he’s enjoying a quality beer .
It’s so great to see you all powering on . Cheers Theobald and Holger . Anyways, that’s enough about me – how’s our travelling Elrond going?
Cheers Barley and Maenas . I still keep an eye on what’s coming out from Mithril, and check the latest pics on the Facebook page. I hope you’re all forging ahead as well as possible, Mithril long, hard and often .
Hey Team MMP . Sorry to go quiet for so long I can’t remember. Health took a bit of a dip, and I can’t paint any more, and haven’t been able to for ages. It’s great to see Elrond still trekking the world, he’s been on the go a whiles now, I remember seeing him down this way more than a couple of years ago! Am happy to take photos of him again, but I tend to be a bit slow moving, so no worries at all if you’d rather keep him moving a bit faster. Either way, happy Mithril and Elronding .
Nice one Isildur . They’re all good, but (and it may be a strange one to pick out) I reckon you’ve done a particularly good job of Farmer Maggott’s dogs.
Well deserved Gildor
Congratulations on the promotion Gildor, as well as the shorter trip to work . Thanks for the heads-up to Barli and Theo as well – it sounds like the new figs won’t be that easy to modify, although I suspect that if there is one, and he has time, Holger will find a way .
Those pics rock – thanks
Sounds like a great idea Wendy – I’ll wait until I’m up to painting again, but if it happens with good time before October 31, I’ll be there with (paint-smeared) bells on.
G’day Presto and Kenakko – good to see you’re still around (not that I can talk!) And great work on watching for those spies from Mordor on our user lists Gildor – you never know what form they’ll take (although with names like Nyspxvem, it’s not always hard to tell – no offence intended if this is a real user with an obscure name)! No knights have arrived down under Barli, as well, as at today, but as you say, the timing of the postage can be a bit variable – given how fast I paint (been crook the last couple of weeks, so poor old Farmer Maggot is still awaiting attention) that’s never bothered me none.
Aye, there’s no risk of Holger starting an ebay store of ‘after market’ Mithrils! Not unless he’s been gazing into a palantir with the Dark Lord at the other end and lost control of his senses . I don’t think Gildor intended to offend – more just being a bit cautious.
For my two cents, I think converting mithrils and making copies of the conversions is very different to recasting production models and selling them on ebay – I think the first is artistic creation and very unlikely to hurt Mithril (unless they were then sold, but this isn’t a worry here), whereas the second is blatant infringement of intellectual property. It’d be a bit like the difference between someone re-editing a movie for their personal use (and maybe making copies of the re-edited movie for a couple of mates), and copying the movie straight and selling it cheap for profit. That said, I don’t know what the law says about this. Definitely an interesting issue, and one that is ethically complicated.
Sorry Barli, please tell your smaller customers that no offence was meant . And that definitely sounds like The Man is a tease and a half (in a good way – anticipation is half the fun)!
You’re a big tease, Barli! Well, I don’t know how big you are (other than bigger than Nob), but you’re definitely a tease. Either way, we’ll have to await with bated breath for what comes next. Speaking of which, it looks like the first round winner is struggling a bit in the final – a bit like our 100 metre mens swimmer at the Olympics, Eamon Sullivan, who broke the world record (which still stands) in the semi-final, but came second in the medal race.
Aye, carn’ those elves! If they were ever footy teams, Elrond’s Elves would smash Tom’s Trolls any day of the week! Don’t worry, we can’t vote for trolls forever, and there’s still round 2 .
I like it! There’s a lot of potential in that diorama – the concept is mightily good.
Thanks guys, you’re far too kind . I’m afraid, Rita, that I don’t have the patience for dioramas, and tend to prefer working on the individual miniatures – I only have around 20 of the 600 or so painted, so if I have _any_ hope of painting them all before I die, I think I should focus on the Mithrils! Indeed, if I continue at a rate of a miniature every 2 years, I’ll need to live to the ripe old age of 1300 or so to finish ’em all! Fortunately, as I’m a human and not an Ent like Theobald, I should be a little quicker on my next mini, Farmer Maggot from the LR series.
In terms of colour scheme, I do have some more brightly painted figs, but it’s got to be appropriate. I tend to think of where each character fit’s into Tolkien’s world, and then ‘dress’ them accordingly. The ghost warrior, for instance, is in my mind a former Dunadan/Numenorean colonist noble (although not too noble!), hence the good kit and the purples in his clothing. Bright colours didn’t seem appropriate (especially as the clothes have been stuck on a rotting skeleton for a while) and my original intentions were to give it some kind of treatment for the fabric to make it seem worn and faded, but given I was so out of practice, thought I’d keep it simple rather than risk messing up half the paint job! On the by, has anyone tried doing anything special to paint old fabrics?
As for which Mithrils I paint, it tends to be in almost any order. Almost means there’s a bit of a bias towards Mithrils that aren’t still in their blister for one reason or another, and have little bits that can get lost, and I’m trying to mix up the painting so I’m not painting a few of the same (orcs, hobbits, Gondorians, Rohirrim) in a row. I’m still kinda getting back into it at the moment, so I’m not quite fully back on top of all the numbers and titles and the like (although I know I can (and will) look them up on Gildor’s most excellent database).
You make sure the rest of you keep posting here – and don’t be shy. Barli, if you’re not keen on close-ups, with a collection like yours you might be able to do a few nice pics of battle formations? If it’s not a pain in the rear, of course, and it won’t distract you from keeping an eye on Nob and the patrons.
