Glad to see this as I just took a picture of mine to post on ebay tonight. Thankfully it is an actual M260 with attached leg and tail in front not the MC22.

Well no more medical bills from our time in Boston. My wife is originally from Poland (she came over when she was 12) and she last time she visited over 18 years ago. I’ve never been but now we are going to save for a trip over the pond and travel this summer. I think this is a great thing and best of all our daughter (who’s still in college) will be able to come with us!!

Well I wasn’t going to post here when I finally put my figures up for auction but Master Caster convinced me to at least put up the link here. I wasn’t going to as I didn’t want to offend anyone that went out of there way to help me gather this collection in the first place. The 1st batch ends tonight and I’ll be putting up 50 at a time for many weeks in a row. If anyone here wants a particular figure or figures I would want those here to get them before a stranger on Ebay.

I sincerely hope she’ll have a great and fast recovery !

I’m sorry to learn you have to part with your collection, but in the end, those are only material possessions nothing compared to someone’s life most of all the love of your life !!

I really hope you manage well with your sales but please, it’s not a reason to leave this community you have your place among us, not matter if you own a collection or not :) Barliman or even Nob will always be there to pour you a chill drink anytime you want !

Thank you my friend. I don’t feel strange saying that even though I’ve only talked to many here or only via email. However, everyone that I have interacted with has been of the highest quality!

If I may Master Gildor, when I do post my collection do you mind if I place a link to your wonderful Database? It is by far the best and most comprehensive anywhere on the internet and would help by giving people a “baseline” to judge value and rarity. I must admit to wanting to get the most out of the sales as I possible can.

Thank you all for the kind words. As I stated in my two previous posts my wife’s treatments appears to be very successful. My wife looks and acts as the vibrant and wonderful woman she is. I am grateful to the wonderful doctors, nurses and technicians as they were all wonderful. It’s the cost that has become the issue which unfortunately means my Mithril collection is a means to an end. As was just said these are just bits of metal and cannot (nor will anything ever) be better than the gift that God granted me when I married my wife.

However, just bits of metal does have some meaning. I have been able to interact and “meet” you all through this shared passion. Tolkien’s world is a part of me and has been since my mother gave me a paperback copy of The Fellowship of the Ring when I was only 7 years old. I was an avid reader even at a young age but looking back reading LotR at such a young age…well, I’m sure there was much I didn’t understand. I did understand enough to know this was a world I wanted to know more of. That led to finding MERP then to Mithril Minis almost a decade later. Even though I didn’t have many of them back in the late 80s I always thought they captured what Middle-earth “looked like” as much Alan Lee or John Howe. This led to my finding these again so many years later (and with your help) when I could actually afford them!

Well, I apologize for the sentimental post but I do love Chris Tubb’s sculpts and have enjoyed, immensely, my time collecting, gluing, Mithril-greying (only as I can’t paint) and just admiring these figures. That two of my “ideas” were actually sculpted as figures (Lorien boat and Deadman of Dunharrow) was really special as well.

Looking now at the 600-700 or so figures is a daunting site as I will need to photograph them all and then post them for sale. As I said, that is truly a daunting task and seems as if it will be like a second job!! :lol:I need to figure out if I should start at M1 and put each one up individually or start with the rarest ones (M16, MX535 variant, MS532, etc.) then later sell the others in groups?

Alas, that is the least of my worries in the grander scheme of things in this merry-go-round we call life!! Again, my MANY heart felt thank yous to each and everyone here. I don’t intend to disappear and will try and pop-in for a pint here at the Inn and see how all the ents, hobbits and other are doing.

That’s very sad news all round, but first, and most importantly of all, is your wife’s condition improving? I pray that it is.

Thank you for your prayers. Yes, she is doing well. It is truly amazing the technology that is available in today’s medicine (though expensive!). She received something called “Proton” therapy for the tumor. Apparently it is many times better than normal “Photon” radiation as it only targets the tumor and doesn’t keep going through the surrounding healthy tissue. However, it was an everyday, six week procedure so we had to temporarily move to the area where this treatment is available as it is only offered in select hospitals. Between the cost of living in a “big city” and losing her own income during this time did hurt. Luckily I am a teacher and was not teaching during the summer. We do feel blessed (and pray a lot!!) and the doctor’s predict a less than 5% chance of the tumor returning! Those are good odds and well worth ANY price!

Well I’ve been dreading making this post for several weeks. It is with great regret that my Mithril collecting must come to an end. This summer my wife had some unexpected health expenses that we now have to pay off. I have good insurance but we still have quite large medical bills to pay off as we had to go out of state for over 6 weeks to get treatment. It was very expensive to say the least. I’m going to have to go to my collection to help pay them off. I wanted to come here first to let you all know as many here have been so instrumental in helping me over years. It is because of you that I’ll be able to sell some very rare figures for a good price to help reduce those bills quickly. I hope you all understand and accept my sincere thank you for all of your help and friendly correspondence. I don’t know if I’ll come back to collect in the future as I don’t think I’ll be able to “find” some of these rare figures I’ve purchase from many of you.

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart. I have LOVED collecting these figures over the years and interacting with you all!

Tom excellent news. I will be first in line to purchase these as I always envisioned these as a full set of three just as the Hobbit trolls. Your post also reminded me that I never contacted you earlier this summer. I apologize for that but will plead that I was away in Boston for most of the summer as my wife received medical care at Mass. General. I would still love to talk to you about this and perhaps future MX figures and your experience.

Reading these posts from the last few days is a bit of a bummer. Considering I “got back into” collecting Mithril figures two years ago right around when this change over began. I still feel the figures are “Mithril” enough that they don’t necessarily clash with everything that has come before. However, after reading some of your post, such as esteemed Master Caster, I now notice the differences where I did not before. Not having certain characters look the same (ex. Galadriel) or be the same size is disappointing but the biggest is the primer. I always associated the Mithril line with the “Mithril grey” look. I truly hope we are not seeing the end coming but there seems to be so few of us left. It may be the end of an era. It just seems like a few tweaks are all that are needed to bring this line back to prominence. I still have the utmost respect and admiration for Chris Tubb as his vision of Middle-earth will always be what I see along with the other greats Alan Lee, John Howe and Ted Nasmith. They brought Tolkien’s world alive in ways I will always cherish.

I will also cherish the contact I have established with so many here and your most generous help and kindness. Now I think I need to head over the The Pony and order a stiff drought of ale!!

I agree. It’s hard to even really know where to look for figures or the different ranges. Maybe I just got used to the old site and this one will eventually grow on me… after it improves over time.
